Antivirus software for Mac
As of June 2012, two antivirus software products for Mac are available at CERN. Please install only one of them, and make sure to properly uninstall one before installing the other.

Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection

This software is currently under tests by the IT Mac Support team.

Installation package: over SMB (on the CERN network) or over WebDAV (from outside CERN).

Note: if you have previously installed Symantec, please follow the uninstallation procedure described below before installing Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection.

Feedback:
We are interested in your feedback - please send an email to scep-mac-feedback@cern.ch!
If you have a problem related to this product, please contact the Service Desk.

Symantec Antivirus

Current status: this software is available for CERN users until February 2013.

Installation package: over SMB (on the CERN network) or over WebDAV (from outside CERN).

Installation and configuration:
Install the package. When the logout/login is done, launch "Symantec Endpoint Protection.app" and click on "Update Now" which will launch "Symantec LiveUpdate".

1-Click the middle item "Update Everything Now" and wait until it's done.

2-Click the third item "Symantec Scheduler". In the new window, click "New" and there are two items: one for the product update which should be done once a month and the second for the Anti Virus scan which should be done once a week. Click on each and set the schedule.

Ater the installation is done you will have to remove a schedule which has been written to the root user's crontab. You must remove it using this command from a terminal window -> sudo symsched -d all

More about it in the text file "LiveUpdate-problem.txt" which is with the software on the server.

Uninstallation:
To unintall Symantec from your Mac, please use the "Symantec Uninstaller" application from the SymantecUninstaller.English.tgz available from the same directory as the installation package.
